TRAINING FOR TRAINERS Cohort

Building Confidence and Expertise as a STEAM Trainer

Are you an ORO-approved Community or Master Trainer with a passion for early STEM education? Do you identify as multilingual, multicultural, or from the BIPOC community? If so, we invite you to join our Training for Trainers Cohort and become a certified Early STEAM Master Trainer.

This exciting program is a partnership between Early Learning Washington County and the Portland Metro STEM Partnership, aimed at expanding the pool of diverse, qualified trainers in early STEM education.

Expectations for cohort participation:

Expectations for Cohort Participation

  • Over 20 hours of ORO-approved training combined with personalized coaching to support your professional development as a trainer.
  • Full attendance at all scheduled training sessions and activities is expected to ensure maximum benefit from the cohort experience.
  • If you are unable to attend or need to step back due to multiple absences, please communicate with us as soon as possible.
  • The total time commitment is between 35 and 40 hours, depending on your individual needs and goals.
  • Trainings will be a combination of online and in-person learning, offering flexibility and diverse learning opportunities.

    Program Timeline

    • Application Open: April 7, 2025
    • Application Closes: April 21,2025
    • Application Review: The first review of applications will be held on April 22, 2025.
    • Notification of Acceptance: Selected candidates will be notified April 23 & 24, 2025.
    • Cohort Start: The first session will begin on May 8, 2025.
    • Cohort End: The final session will be on August 19, 2025.

    What is the Cost to Participate?

    • No cost for accepted participants!
    • ELWC (Early Learning Washington County) sponsors this training and provides a stipend to support your participation.
    • If you plan to attend during work hours, please inform both your employer and ELWC to coordinate.

Am I Eligible to Participate?

  • To participate, you must be committed to fully participating throughout the entire duration of the cohort training. This includes attending all scheduled sessions and actively engaging in the training process.
  • You must be at a minimum a step 7 in ORO
  • To participate, you must be an approved Community Trainer in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO).
    • Not sure what step you are, contact your local Washington County CCR&R for them to provide you with a copy of your ORO Steps.

What if I Don’t Live or Work in Washington County?

  • While we prioritize educators from Washington County, we welcome applicants from other regions. If slots remain available, we will accept participants from outside the county.

Do I Need to Be a STEAM Expert Already?

  • You don’t need to be a STEAM expert to participate! Many of us already engage in STEAM-related activities without even realizing it.
  • Through collaborative learning, resources, and hands-on coaching, you will deepen your understanding of STEAM concepts and their application in early education.
